About Island Sailing Tours
Island Sailing Tours sails coastal New England in the summer and the US Virgin Islands in the winter. Our boat, Tandemeer, is a beautiful, spacious and classic 60' ocean going ketch, with plenty of room to spread out and plenty of power to sail long distances. Summer 2024 we will be in Vineyard Haven, Martha’s Vineyard.
On board, Tandemeer boasts comfortable lounging space inside and out, a classic teak interior and an attentive crew to serve you from the moment you board to the moment you step off.
For our guests joining us for overnight sails, there are four private double staterooms each with ensuite toilet, sink and shower, plush linens and towels, and chef-prepared gourmet meals cooked to your satisfaction.
Meet the Crew
S/V Tandemeer Captain Sequoia
Captain Sequoia Sun is the owner of Tandemeer and Island Sailing Tours. Originally from California where he began sailing at the age of eight followed by racing on San Francisco Bay, crossing the Pacific at age 17, owning, racing and crewing on many boats for more than 50 years. Captain Sun has sailed over 50,000 sea miles on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and extensively in the Caribbean Sea, and has a US Coast Guard 100 Ton rated Masters License. Along with a career in television and video production, Sun has spent his life sailing for fun, adventure and on charitable humanitarian aid missions.
In 2006, Sun was a captain for Greenpeace USA; from 2008-2010 he was Executive Director of OceansWatch NA; and from 2014-2017 he was a captain for International Rescue Group sailing six voyages to deliver aid to Haiti. Since January 2010 Sun has been delivering aid to Haiti, mostly to the small island of Ile a Vache located six miles off the south coast of the Haitian mainland. 2022 will mark Sequoia’s 15th voyage to Haiti.
In between charter seasons, Captain Sequoia operates Sail Aid International www.sailaidinternational.org a 501(c)3 non-profit delivering humanitarian aid to islands in the Caribbean suffering from the effects of earthquakes, hurricanes, poverty and other man-made and natural disasters, mostly to Ile a Vache Haiti, but also delivering to other islands as needed.
